In another DU thread the topic was childhood misunderstandings. Well, this thread reminds me of one. In golf, when you read a course, if the fairway curves to the right, it's called a dog leg to the right. Replace it with "left" if it goes left. I guess that goes with the visual of a dog with a leg raised as it takes a leak. Don't know for sure, but, my misunderstanding was, that instead of a dog leg to the right, I thought they were saying a dog lick to the right. Now I understand why that made them howl.
