"Icey" died today.

RIP, my little countertop ice maker. I loved you, even though you were just cheaply made, Chinese junk.

Seriously, don't buy these, they seem to break down (conveniently???) about a year and a day after the warranty is up. This is the second one I've had, and this is its second break down. Each time was about 2-3 days after the one year warranty, or in this case, after the 2nd anniversary of the warranty. I think they put a self-destruct chip in there.

Now, how I am going to have cold drinks???

Not meaning to be flip--truly. I've considered those portable icemakers, but all the reviews say basically what you are experiencing...

Though I have a built-in icemaker, it works for about two minutes after I take it apart and then stops again--So, back to ice trays and if that isn't keeping up, I put some dry ice in the bottom of a large cooler in the basement and put about 20 pounds of commercial ice in there. Not tremendously convenient, but it keeps about 10-14 days that way and lets me build back up my supply of icetray cubes.

Sorry for your loss.

It's amazing they were able to survive in the "olden times" with such primitive technology.

It would be like replacing this:
