6. My cat does it, too, but she requires that I pet her with both hands.

So if I'm petting her inadequately - that is, with only one hand - she'll pat the unused hand until I put that one to work as well.

11. One of our prior cats did the patting thing to get me out of bed

He would start around my collarbone, then go up to my face near my cheekbones, then my nose. As a last resort, he would very gently put those little jellybean footpads on my eyelids and tap away until I got up.

One of our current cats likes to groom us. One night I kept dreaming someone was trying to scalp me along my hairline! I woke up just enough to realize it was that cat, grooming me in that same spot!!
