Downtown Oakland residents may have felt the ground shake Saturday morning, but it wasnt an earthquake.
At about 10:15 a.m., a helicopter dropped an industrial air conditioning unit onto Clay Street near 14th Street after the cables holding it snapped, the Mercury News reported. Construction workers ran for cover as the unit came crashing down from almost 40 feet in the air.
There were no injuries reported, and the helicopter continued to hover in the air afterward.
The Mercury News obtained a recorded video of the incident from Rudi Tcruz, who was walking by with his brother at the time and decided to film the helicopter lifting the unit. In the video, it is in the air for about 30 seconds before the cables break.
Traffic had been closed to the street at the time. The accident was not far from City Hall.
