My favorite Andy Griffith parenting moment.

Just a snippet of Opie the Birdman, where Opie shoots a bird with his slingshot, and Andy insists that he raise its babies. It's as zen parenting as it gets. In a world where our fathers all too often resorted to physical punishment, I always thought, and still think, that his firm but gentle hand set a wonderful example. I saw this moment as a child for the first time and still can't get through it without misting up.

And of course, he had a wicked sense of humor as well. RIP Anj. You earned it.

to be used only in a dire emergency (parenting Barney), because Barney was so careless with guns. But, that bullet would always seem to find it's way into Barney's gun and get accidentally discharged. It was hilarious.

That was the episode where they had to keep two felons in "The Rock" as Barney put it.
