The story was interesting - never meant to be anything heavy. But perhaps more importantly, it was never meant to be a full-on authentic period piece. They made that very clear in the non-traditional casting. If you thought it would be Jane Austen or something similar, then that is on you, not them.

I think the primary value is that they showed the possibility of what could happen with other productions. For instance, the Netflix show _The Irregulars_ is benefitting from the non-traditional casting as well - the ensemble they have chosen is extremely strong for the story-telling. I think Marvel saw something similar within the past few years in how they are incorporating diversity into their character suite - even for existing characters - for the purpose of telling more authentic stories.

an alternate history where the racial caste system was at least partly destroyed by the existence of black nobility.

I am not a fan of the romance genre, but it is an interesting concept.

You do understand that you control what you watch on Netflix. So just block yourself if African aristocrats bother you. Or you could set your Netflix profile to child mode.

I was forced to watch till the end just to see if it got any better. It didn't.

All that money and they couldn't afford to buy any good dialogue? Or character development? The kid who could communicate with Kong was the only good thing in the film.

...I couldn't say.

I will say though that your negative recommendation makes me happy I never heard of it.

Many times people object that I haven't seen the shows for which they have strong positive recommendations.

For many years people kept telling me I had to watch Seinfeld, and I have seen over all these years, reruns included, maybe two or three episodes, and then only because I was in a room where other people were watching it and it was essentially background noise.

I didn't get it, probably because I have no sense of humor.

I personally don't like Jerry Seinfeld either. He's got a very annoying voice and I never thought he was funny. I still don't. Like you, I've only watched maybe one or two episodes of that show and only because someone who loved the show was visiting.

Particularly when it comes to stage productions.

For example, the production of "Frankenstein" at the National Theatre had a black woman play Dr. Frankenstein's betrothed/wife and a black child played Dr. Frankenstein's nephew. Shakespearean casts are most often multi-racial.

If you think about it, it only makes sense, otherwise, black actors would only be able to play characters in modern pieces.

When the BBC's television production of some of Shakespeare's plays was broadcast in the US on PBS, there was a huge outcry about the fact there were black actors in the casts. The Brits were so used to it that they didn't even understand why it was an issue.

I think it's wonderful, myself.

I had a blast with it, for exactly what it was, a genre-bending costume loving bodice ripper with one of the hottest leading men I have ever laid eyes on.

Everything about it seemed way over the top; I watched a couple of episodes and decided it wasn't worth continuing. But I'm not a fan of romance novels or romance tv series, no matter how fancy the costumes. I do agree that the leading man was hot, though.

Maybe wickedly bad.

No, it's not a show I'd watch with my mom, well maybe only as revenge for an art show she took me to once upon a time where Ken and Barbie dolls were doing all sorts of unseemly things.

The ending of Bridgerton made me laugh out loud.

8 minutes to go, Clippers 85 Laker 66. Both teams are missing key players (Laker LeBron James for one), and it's just awful. I realize the game was scheduled a long time ago, but both ABC and TNT are dedicated to showing the Lakers, and they're horrible right now.

Now one of the analysts is saying that a 17 point deficit isn't insurmountable these days. What I'm hearing is "Please don't change the channel from this stinkeroo of a game."
