My husband and I were in Paris in 1985, exploring. We stopped at the box office at the Opera to see what was on the schedule while we were in town. So the next night we saw the ballet Giselle. Nureyev danced the secondary male role and it was a night to remember!

Back when I traveled to Europe every year there were deals you could find at Trip Advisor. If you go off season (but not too "off&quot the rates are better.

Friends of ours just sold their house in Oregon and moved to Malaga. They don't have children, so didn't have the tie to the US that we do.

I'm so itchy to travel again!

She won't be paying for any more college as the youngest graduates this year.

I can't wait to go!

many painters were besotted by music, esp. in France, involving the Garnier. It was THE gorgeous hall for concerts. Delacroix was there to hear Paganini play and painted a full length painting of this mesmerizing violinist. Of course, Parisians paid a big price for going to theatre and generally partying on and then uh, oh, they are dropping dead from cholera. It was an interesting time!

Sending my grands (2, 5, 6,7) art and music books.

Awful that likely won't be able closely to inform them, as my folks and I did in the past.

in my concert dress, a full length pink satin dress with a bouffy long skirt. I remember it fondly. People used to dress up to go to the opera in those days. I adored that dress and remember it very well.

AND to at least one of Lenny's Young People's Concerts. OTHER things too, followed by 'dinner' @ Granados Spanish Restaurant in The Village. (and Europe, sputnik day.)

I/we took the girls to Ken Cen for various performances.

(Getting sad now, none of that available now for my grands.)

And the Vietnam Memorial was just being installed. I passed it every day carpooling into the district from N.VA. I remember it being VERY controversial at the time. And I remember being shocked when I learned that the new subway system just installed CLOSED at 6 p.m.!! I remember thinking then I wasn't gonna like the D.C. area very much. I was right.

Hours shrinking now, I think, due to covid, but as I'm 60 miles south of DC now, I haven't used it for years.

(SORRY our visit to National Gallery was messed up, and your unfortunate situation thereafter; my office was down the avenue therefrom, so I lunched there occasionally; and Cherry Blossoms!)
