(15,135 posts)My husband and I were in Paris in 1985, exploring. We stopped at the box office at the Opera to see what was on the schedule while we were in town. So the next night we saw the ballet Giselle. Nureyev danced the secondary male role and it was a night to remember!

I'm so itchy to travel again!

(63,912 posts)many painters were besotted by music, esp. in France, involving the Garnier. It was THE gorgeous hall for concerts. Delacroix was there to hear Paganini play and painted a full length painting of this mesmerizing violinist. Of course, Parisians paid a big price for going to theatre and generally partying on and then uh, oh, they are dropping dead from cholera. It was an interesting time!

Awful that likely won't be able closely to inform them, as my folks and I did in the past.

I/we took the girls to Ken Cen for various performances.

(63,912 posts)And the Vietnam Memorial was just being installed. I passed it every day carpooling into the district from N.VA. I remember it being VERY controversial at the time. And I remember being shocked when I learned that the new subway system just installed CLOSED at 6 p.m.!! I remember thinking then I wasn't gonna like the D.C. area very much. I was right.

(SORRY our visit to National Gallery was messed up, and your unfortunate situation thereafter; my office was down the avenue therefrom, so I lunched there occasionally; and Cherry Blossoms!)
