(17,994 posts)Several parakeets I can tell you they are smart. They learn to go around you if you try to stop one.
My last one learned to try and land on my husbands newspaper because he knew he would be brushed off. I grew lettuce in a pot for him, but he wanted to eat the other plants. My Grandmother was sitting on the sun porch with him. She said he was like a little kid. Waited until I left the room, head right for the plants I did not want him to eat.

(21,664 posts)was a child. I had a cat. The parakeet teased the cat and it looked deliberate. Dickie (the bird) would swoop down to the floor about 6 inches away from where the cat was napping and start whistling or talking. The cat would wake up, get into pounce position, and Dickie would fly up to the curtain rod before the cat could pounce.
It was like watching a Tweety and Sylvester cartoon. One day Dickie did not move fast enough and lost a tail feather. He squawked indignantly from the curtain rod. After that near miss, he stopped landing near the cat.
He wolf whistled my adult, married cousin when she passed by his cage. Cousin thought my father did it and snapped at him about respecting women. She would not believe that it was the bird until she saw him do it. My brother had taught him to whistle like that.

(153,226 posts)seems strange that something that can literally soar through the air would be entertained by standing on a rolling ball
