My sisters were hippies my family strongly progressive.

Grew up reading Abby Hoffman books and Fat Freddy's Cat.

Dress like a punk,goth,hippy hybrid.

Think multi colors mowhawk and black and rainbow clothes, tye dyed trips, and black leather punk jacket with a glittery peace necklace..

I was married, had a baby and a husband, and a full time job. I smoked pot, though, dropped some LSD and ate my share of mushrooms; listened and went to Doors concert, Janis Joplin, Jethro Tull, The Who, and all of that sort. Said "far out" and "outta sight" a lot. Well, and of course I said "fuck" at least once in every sentence. Watched students being killed at Kent State by fascist pigs, and cried a lot, especially when listening to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. I showered regularly, btw.

So, dude, I don't know. Was I?

Went to High School where we had a campus of buildings. We used to meet between classes and smoke a "J" as we called it. When they got wise to that they started doing random locker checks by having us give them our lock numbers (fascist pigs!) so we figured out their system and met behind the buildings for a J. Then they took away our padlocks, then we could not use our coats between buildings (girls already could not wear pants and that made 15 degrees with sleet really fun for us but we were Marijuana free Praise the Lord!). Then the random purse/pocket checks. We still managed to smoke a J between classes but not as easily. We protested, they sent us home and gave us an F in our classes for the day. We protested the war AND our war and they gave us an F for the day. It went on and on. They never figured out how to deal with High School kids, I found that odd (fascist pigs).

My mother had already stopped me from listening to Dylan in Jr. High so.....fascist pigs!

Other than that, things were groovy.

Lived on Jennifer street in Madison WI.

Knocked hash oil on the carpet and spent a year rubbing rolling papers on it before rolling a joint.

We dealt pot. Pot only. Until two bikers from Milwaukee stole 100 lbs of pot in our Marantz speaker boxes from our storage locker in the basement.

Lived next door to an Ashram and ate vegetarian dinners with them.

Took acid, MDA, smoked a joint laced with opium and it was amazing.
Smoked a joint laced (unknowingly) with PCP and had an awful experience.

Made “Free Love” with more men than my mother ever did.

Moved to a place where it’s legal to smoke. Have been a wake and Baker my whole adult life. Held very responsible jobs.

Don’t know if qualify. But hey man, Pass the Dutchie to the left.

hung out at The Cellar when I was 13, went to Dallas International Pop Festival in Lewisville (thru back fence), got high from 14 on, went to Concert for Bangla Desh in Ft. Worth and sat in circle in Trinity Park passing around the peace pipe. Oh, read On the Road and Howl. I was into it. I was even in San Francisco in 1968 and my dad drove us thru the intersection of Haight and Ashbury on vacation in the Ford Country Squire station wagon. Those were days.

I briefly worked in a head shop until it got raided (because the owner was cheating the IRS}.

Hitchhiked. Protested the war. Was a member of Yippie.

Too broke to buy bell-bottoms or go to concerts much.

Met and hung out with the Grateful Dead backstage for a couple of concerts before they became big. Someone had given me free tickets.

Did the occasional poetry reading at coffeehouses.

Helped peddle the local underground newspaper and did a little writing for it.

Gave up the hippie stuff many years ago, but still say "far f**king out on occasion.

albeit with a pretty consistent personal hygiene protocol. (except for that patchouli thing)

I am proud of being a hippie to this day. Expanded consciousness, self-awareness, social responsibility, intellectual curiosity were all busted wide open for me back then. My "evolution" continues and I've learned to be grateful for this lovely trip.

Oh yeah, the music kicked ass too!

only not as many of them. Seem to have misplaced the ones from the top.

I remember being 4 or 5 in the late 60s and my Uncle came home from college for christmas and had super long hair and a beard and I just thought he was the coolest guy on the planet. I still do think that but alas, he's left this planet. I miss him dearly. Not long after he passed away his wife took me aside and and said he was proud of me and I'm crying right now just remembering that. She also said he had planned to retire in the next couple months and start growing his hair long again because he knew he was the reason I still let my hair grow. He was looking forward to us hanging out with long hair and stuff. #hippiegoals
