Watching Art Carney in The Late Show

1. Love it. Did you see Lily Tomlin and Martin Short in the mini series "Damages"?

They were both excellent and memorable in dramatic roles. Glenn Close was also in it. Sort of a Bernie Madoff tale.

... Atlantic City (Burt Lancaster), The Conversation (Gene Hackman), The Grifters ...

6. The "Conversation"was terrific, still sticks in my mind.

A rational man slowly going insane by getting too into his covert eavesdropping. He seems normal at the beginning of the movie. By the end we see the complete mental breakdown. Did you ever see “Scarecrow”?

10. Gene Hackman and Al Pacino. Couple of ne'er-do-wells who can't seem to stay out of jail

One of them,I think it’s Hackman, keeps putting on T-shirts as the weather gets colder, one on top of the other. that’s where the title comes from.

11. Carney won the Oscar over Pacino

for Harry & Tonto. It was a big Oscar upset. Hackman is a great, underrated, actor.

you're right, it's underrated. Carney's best performance imo
