I can't believe we have been here three weeks in a row. I don't know when the last time was that I have spent more than a week in New York City. Probably when I used to stay with my grandparents, and that would have been over 50 years ago. In fact we stayed one block from the building where one set of my grandparents used to live.
Our daughter here gave birth to her first child the day after we got here. We were going to have brunch the next morning, but she told us that she had to make a quick detour to the maternity ward. Hello Laurence Asher! Now we have a grandson, as well as our two German granddaughters.
But the world marches on. My wife have our appointments for our second vaccinations in Dallas on Monday. We will hang around for a few days in case there are any adverse reactions, and then we head back to Germany on Saturday. Since it had been at least 60 years sine I had done this, we (my wife, my sister, and my brother-in-law) decided to go on a boat ride around Manhattan. We chose the one day when the weather promised to be good, and the water calm. We were rewarded with a few nice views, which we now share with you.

I'll have to pay a steep debt in make-up work time when we get back to Germany, but this trip was worth it.

(54,370 posts)We plan to meet up with 7wo 7rees again in Dallas if time permits, and I will see if my dentist still recognizes me. Other than that, seeing our usual friends, and a few trips to the office, I don't anticipate a hectic week. The EU has really caught a lot of deserved flak for letting their bureaucracy bog them down with respect to vaccinations, and have publicly launched a publicity blitz about how they plan to play catch-up to the USA, whom they usually put down as being so far behind. But even if they actually do what they claim, they won't be ready in time for us to leave once again for the USA in July, so we are really glad we were able to coordinate it with this trip.
Our new grandson seems to be one very relaxed baby. Three weeks old, and he is very calm compared to our two girls. When he's hungry, he says so, but otherwise seems content to sleep or let the world carry on around him. My daughter is very attentive and conscientious, as she always was, so we have no worries there, and her husband, who has a very demanding job, is nonetheless there for her when she needs it. We are leaving with good spirits and high hopes. We'll see them in 2 months anyway, as they plan to visit us in our little hideaway that we rent every year in New England, and my outfit is being very good about letting me play hooky for so much time. Not every employer is cool with someone disappearing for five weeks.

Your 3rd photo seems to show the new waterfront park I've briefly caught on my FB feed!
Continued safe traveling!
