(25,902 posts)I suspect that alcohol free wine would be the same. I mean, honestly, go for a fruit juice if you don't want alcohol. I'm not even remotely interested in trying alcohol free wine. Thank you very much.

(65,213 posts)I find both Heineken & Bitburger zero beers refreshing & satisfying.
I like the taste of beer, (I enjoy bitters in food, too), but I don't care for the buzz.
I rarely buy anything else.
I barely drink wine (maybe with spaghetti) but I do buy it for cooking.
Maybe alcohol free is a good option for that, as it would be nearly impossible to inadequately reduce it. Nothing worse than using wine or hard liquor in food & not getting all the alcohol out.

(7,947 posts)LOL.
So is non-alcohol wine any good? I'd be willing to give it a try.

(118,816 posts)grape juice so I don't mind most de alcoholized wines. But Woodbrige Cabernet Sauvingnon no alcohol is delicious. There is a yummy aftertaste. It makes me feel like I am drinking the real thing.

(118,816 posts)every night. Yum. I made it once from scratch for christmas. It was so expensive because of all the spices. Delicious. We all liked it. And it was even good cold.
You must try and put the real thing in your cup some day. LOL!

(4,399 posts)flavored herb tea like hibiscus or lavender, ginger, one time even basil, every week. I saved glass bottles with screw tops from liquid commercial offerings; wash carefully as with baby bottles each time, LOL, and refill through the spigot on the tea jar and refrigerate each week for daily refreshment at dinner. Mornings though afternoon break, I'm all in with hot coffee!

(63,912 posts)Different wines are cultivated (and has been for a very long time) from grapes, right? Well, a grape is not just a grape. It comes from somewhere, different soil, different climate and weather changes, and over the years those grapes are cultivated and grown to produce the taste of the wine itself.
Here in the U.S. we put nitrites in wine so that same bottle of wine you loved in different countries in Europe (or South America) tastes "different." You don''t get the same wine you got in the countries where they are cultivated and grown and you drank when you were over there and it was all so great.
The F.R.E. Merlot w/o alcohol tastes like the regular Merlot (at least to me). That company's Cabernet Sauvignon does not, at least to me.

(118,816 posts)This Cab Sauvingnon was definitely closer to real cab sauv than grape juice.

(65,213 posts)The sugars are still consumed in the process. So, the wine & grape juice differ radically in sucrose & fructose content.
Also, the flavor components (aldehydes & esters) are the by-product of the fermentation process & incidental oxidation. Those components are not present in grape juice.
The nonalcoholic wines are made like any other wine, but are treated in a special reverse osmosis process that selectively removes ethanol while leaving the vast majority of the other low molecular weight organics that make wine taste like wine.
This would be nothing like grape juice.
