If you figure out who it was please let me know... Put the link under this post please! I'm heavily involved in wild horse issues regarding a herd in my state.

America's wild horses and burros are being managed to extinction by the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. The public lands cattle and sheep ranchers want them gone. And the FS and BLM kiss the feet of the ranchers.

The herd in my state has had about 3 dozen horses shot dead during three killing sprees that occurred in January over the last 3 years. The Forest Service doesn't appear to be doing anything about it. But then why would they when they are planning on culling the herd down to a non viable number in the very near future? The only animal in that forest that the Forest Service cares about are the cattle.

It is the policy of Congress that wild free-roaming horses and burros shall be protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death;
THE WILD FREE-ROAMING HORSES AND BURROS ACT OF 1971 (PUBLIC LAW 92-195)
(b) "wild free-roaming horses and burros" means all unbranded and unclaimed horses and burros on public lands of the United States;
Penalties increased in 1984:
The WFHBA provides for criminal penalties of up to $2,000 and/or a year in jail for those convicted of a violation of the law. Penalties increased under the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984, as amended. Today, violation of the WFHBA is a Class A misdemeanor, and fines can run up to $100,000 for each offense.
Arizona Animal Cruelty laws and penalties would apply as well.

Nothing seems to stop the roundups of our wild horses and burros that are occurring across our western states.

But if big ranching had its way, they still would be, claiming that the mustangs compete with their cattle for grazing. Oh--and this happens on OUR public land where ranchers get long-term leases for pennies.

Horses and cattle graze differently. Horses like the short grass, and their teeth can cut it closer to the ground. Cattle want tall grass, as their teeth don't work the same way. So, they're actually pretty good pasture companions.

Unfortunately wild horses are still being sent to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. The roundups themselves are very cruel. The treatment some of the animals get is often brutal. This is not something America should be proud of at all.

Cattle and horses get along great. But there again the lies by the ranchers are never ending.

Thank you for posting this! It was extra-good to find out their rescue is named after Duane Allman. If that's just a coincidence, it should be named after him. It's already got the name, after all.

When love arrives this way
it surprises you
the carutal turns green and the guamachito flowers
and the rope breaks

They put the horse to pasture because he's old and tired
Never realizing that a a heart restrained
when you lose the rope becomes a runaway

And if a young chestnut filly comes near that old horse
his heart explodes and will ignore the hobble
and will not obey bridal nor break

When love arrives this way
it's nobody's fault
Love has no clock, nor date on the calendar
When desire arrives

They give the horse pasture because his days are numbered
but every morning he quickens his step
to see the young filly that drives him crazy

A young buck takes his time because he has it to spare
An old horse cannot waste the flour before him
because after this life there's no other chance.
