7. I remember when I was fostering baby box turtles

for a scientific research project that gives headstarts to babies so they will be big enough when released to survive. One of my males had me worried---he was in the water pan and I saw something that freaked me out. I thought that he had a rectal prolapse and contacted the turtle expert for help. He was at a loss and worried too and contacted another expert. We had more people who were experts on turtles involved when all of a sudden, one of them said it sounded like he was just horny. Turned out to be something that is called fanning, where they get an erection....but of all the turtles headstarted over the years, no one had ever had one reach maturity before.

I can laugh now.
