Time for a milestone? Deleting the paper delivery of the newspaper?

The newspaper has been a permanent feature of my entire life. I've always lagged behind in kewl technology, late to computers, never-happened with most other games/machines. I have gone as far as a Kindle and don't like it, but use it a little.

Sometimes I had a couple of years gaps in home delivery during my hectic years, but have gone at least 25 years with this phase of it. There have been a few times when they have a double billing problem, that is, sending out two bills but not charging twice, claiming that their programming spits out bills on certain days of the month. The complaint person gets testy, saying, "It SAYS on the bill to disregard it if you've already paid."

Anyway, it doesn't feel the same, even though I spend much more time with DU and internet news and 24-hr news channels. Every morning I unroll the paper, discard the no-good sections, glance at the barely-there front page that only has, like, three items on it, skim some more pages in the "A" section that might have items that were on DU or elsewhere days before.

Really, what my local paper comes down to are the obituaries, a few very local stories that are on their website, the comix and horoscope. I detest Ruben NAVARRETTE who does NOT speak for Democratic Hispanics, and in fact, skip ALL of this paper's editorials and columnists. The paper deleted Letters to the Editor a few years ago.

So I'm thinking it's time for a milestone, dumping the local newspaper. I don't like going to its website, and there ARE some of the community events pages in the paper not in the website. This is like $133 per year.

I can already feel the gap. And I'm not used to Kindle, either.

I get most of my news from the Internet. Husband does not like computers much.

Our local daily has become very conservative. I fight with the editor all the time.

Just about everything you say is true here, as well...

But we like to read it.

They have some excellent columnists, and the local stories are good.

Besides, I read it with my morning coffee! It's a ritual that I love having.

It would leave a huge gap for us if we didn't get the paper...
