(3,696 posts)There are YouTube channels dedicated to these old radio shows. Chesterton Radio and The Edge of Midnight are my favorites. The EOM has all the old CBS Mystery shows that were hosted by E.G. Marshall. They're always great.

(38,421 posts)...Now, many do not know the quality of these shows..They were so good that with the scripts and the sound
effects, we were able to imagine clearly what was going on...When radio was Number 1 in the 40s, there were
special assistants who did nothing but try to make the shows totally imaginable...That is clear enough for a
person listening to a show...to totally imagine what was going on..
...That led to improving the clarity and content of the show...so that it stayed on the air year after year...
....And Yes,,,many radio shows stayed on the air for many, many, many years...

(9,170 posts)Marshal Matt Dillon was played by William Conrad, who later played detective Frank Cannon on TV. Doc Adams was played by Howard McNear, later Floyd the barber on the Andy Griffith Show. Doc was written as a drunk on the radio version.

(4,858 posts)...the Shadow knows...bwahahahahaha...! Incidentally, Lamont Cranston originally was *not* The Shadow; Kent Allard was, though there was a Lamont Cranston in the stories. The pulp magazine was entertaining, and dreadfully written, at the same time. And the Alec Baldwin film isn't bad at all...
