I had one unpleasant patient after another today. It was one of those days that makes me feel like I'm not very good at what I do.

Fortunately, days like that are usually followed by days that make everything all right. But I'll have to wait for Monday for that to happen...

I can only sympathize since I have never had anything like some of the experiences you've described. I raise my metaphorical drink to your continuing patience and health.

…as I got home a few hours ago from hip replacement surgery - done this morning, and sent home about 12 hours later. No alcohol for me, but I’ll toast you with a cocktail of Tylenol,
Tramadol, and Celebrex -

I know you don’t care for pediatrics. The only thing I really miss since retiring is newborns in general, and first time parents in particular. For the most part, first time parents are desperate for information, and very willing to learn pretty much anything, so they are very appreciative of one’s time and effort.

I hope you get some appreciation next week.

What are your vacation plans?

No real travel plans until COVID is done.

I'll be taking three days of it for continuing education. That will be in Spokane. Not exactly the biggest tourist draw in the world...

for a short time.

Hang in there...you and your profession are doing wonderful things against a lot of odds...namely the anti-vaxers.

What ever happened to common sense?

Signed the "Declined Recommended Vaccines" form right in front of me.

I asked her what her objection was to the vaccine. The usual: "I just don't want to". Which is stupid for "I know my objection is idiotic, but I'm too stubborn to admit it."

I'm a teacher and not a doc, and my boss is compelled to be vaccinated. She complains all the time about that and the fact her "whole family came down with Covid." Two grandparents of hers died and her brother. Still, she goes on about homeopathy and crap like that.

But I come from a family of teachers, so I really respect the profession.

I can't wait for COVID-19 to be over, so I can go back to hearing stupid reasons why my patients don't want the flu shot...

Honestly, I don’t know how you put up with the stupid. Raise you arm and pat yourself on the back. I’d have been so fired multiple times. At least it’s the weekend. Hope you have a great one!

My PA let me down. Almost two years ago, I had intermittent profuse underarm sweating, PA said hyperhydrosis. I had to live with it.

Then, 18 months ago, an infection in my tongue at the base of my throat, saw the PA who tried to force my tongue down to view it and nearly killed me with pain. Some don’t give a shit I guess—another doctor did something similar to my back, once.

2 emergency hospital admissions, first one did nothing but give me antibiotics and release me. Second one, about 2 weeks later, did emergency surgery. I thought a cactus hair had lodged there, since I had dug up a lot of cactus and in the field would occasionally pick the hairs from my skin with my teeth. Saw a dentist and oral surgeon who found nothing. I truly wonder, now.

Then 6 months ago a sinus infection and a mucocele on my inner lip. PA said allergies, told me to take expectorants, antihistamine and Flonase-I have every day for six months just barely controlling the symptoms.

Had a dental exam last month and was advised I had an abscess in a molar and that was the probable cause of my sinus infection. The tooth did not bother me because the one beneath had been pulled 25 years ago.

Had the bastard pulled 10 days ago and agonizingly, that long-lasting infection is clearing. Oral surgeon gave 8 5/325 hydrocodone. Good for 3 days. Suffering since. Even called him last weekend and he curtly told me I was progressing normally so I didn’t ask for more. Fuck him. It’s only pain. Pain and pleasure are the same. (Interesting to witness the medical community whiplash around prescribing opiates.)

I can feel the connection in my sinus to where the tooth was, to the place where my tongue was infected, to the mucocele. No more sweating.

2 years of hell. Ironic I might have prolonged it by having such a good diet and constantly supplementing with turmeric, etc.

Heads up. You might see a patient with similar symptoms. Thanks for listening.

When I worked retail I would have days like that also. As Bill Clinton used to say, "I feel your pain."

But last winter I had a long series of minor health issues, and ultimately saw 8 or 9 MDs (and countless PAs.) Every single one of them was wonderful: competent, friendly, and empathetic. I have a feeling that you are one of those.

So thank you for all the good you do for your patients.
