Does anyone else find football announcers and commentators annoying? That tone of voice all the time -- I can just imagine them at home:
"HONEY, THE CAT WANTS TO GO OUT. HE'S PAWING AT THE DOOR... TURNS AROUND... FADES BACK... BACK TO THE DOOR... BACK AND FORTH... HE'S JUMPING FOR THE HANDLE... "
Meanwhile the color commentator: "This is the fifth time this week Fluffy has tried that play. He's really made an improvement from when he was a kitten... "
Suddenly: "HE JUMPED HALFWAY UP THE DOOR... HE REALLY WANTS OUT... "
I dunno, I've never been all that much of a sports fan, but I can figure out for myself what's happening. Turning the volume down helps, but wondering if anyone else here feels the same way.

(66,588 posts)to 'authenticity' in color commentary is to hire a guy with a Southern accent.
Which usually yields 'colorful' commentary like: "Jew see hee-im kitch 'at bawl?"

(26,121 posts)Soccer commentary is so laid back compared to the excitable loud mouth hair on fire football commentators. Even the fans sound different.

(4,175 posts)Every ball game is marred with blather and so called stats that NOBODY could give a red rat's ass about. This also goes for baseball, and the WORST is college football.

(17,253 posts)The vacuity and asininity of the announcers is one of the main reasons I don't watch the sport anymore. Commercials is the other. Oh, and I suppose I should also note that the rules changes over the years (especially the Instant Replay rule) have made the game a lot less fun for me to watch.
Fortunately, there are a number of videos on YT from a time when I actually enjoyed watching the game. Even though I know the outcome, it doesn't affect the aesthetic pleasure of watching the great plays being made.
