It is part school, and part competition. I really liked the balance. Every episode you learn a new technique with chocolate. And, the best part is that there is also a balance between teamwork and humility, and the old cutthroat competition that we've come to know too well.
Actually, the ones who were there to learn and not into cutthroat-ting, were able to rise to their potential without being trounced by the more dominant players. That's very rare.

(34,119 posts)My son turned me on to the British Baking Show and I far prefer that to any of the others. I find most of those done in this country are so frantic and over stimulating that the entire baking or whatever they are doing is lost in the flashy lights and over reacting.
I will check that out and let him know. We are getting ready to start learning how to make really cool cakes. Not so much decorating but cakes with fruit suspended in gel and just cakes I never even imagined. It sounds like a fun, couple of times a year activity with one of my sons.
