(3,836 posts)I totally support Human rights.. ALL humans ( and animal rights but that's another thread) I have, in my life and among my friends, usually been considered the "token straight girl" --- a title I cherish.

(13,421 posts)I know that "the labels" help us identify each other, but it seems to me that maybe sometimes they sort and divide as well. I used to say that politically I am a lesbian with an extreme fondness for men, but any more I can't even joke about this kind of stuff. I am at the point in life that I just AM. I love, and am loved and my hope is for everyone to be so blessed.
Heterosexism can be cured and it is one illness I'd love to see eradicated in our lifetime.

(21,484 posts)I agree with you to a great extent. I don't disagree, but . . . dammit, I just don't know how to describe my answer. (I often find myself at a loss for words lately. Aging?) This point was raised in a discussion on The Washington Post about an article about Sally Ride's coming out via her obituary.
Thanks for this thoughtful post.

(3,173 posts)We have a great club. Our officers over the past four years have included two trans kids, many gay kids, a few bi kids, and even a straight one or two. My co-sponsor (who is gay) and I are inspired constantly by the spirit these young people exhibit through their support of each other, their personal growth over the years as they take on their own identities, and their triumphs over the challenges they face at home and at school. Yay gay!!

(95,337 posts)I mean, we all have our preferences but in the long run isn't it about love? I mean I prefer men but I suppose if love came in the form of a woman would I deny it?
That's my 2 cents.

(4,056 posts)Those of us straight folks who support equal rights, fight against homophobia--institutionalized and personal bigotry--and want our beautiful gay friends to have all the freedom they've been promised as Americans. If there is a "gay agenda", here's what I think about it:
The agenda must mean that my gay friends are there to support me when I'm down, celebrate with me when I'm happy, get drunk with me and commiserate when our partners act like jerks--as well as styling my hair, styling my clothes, creating art for my home, cooking me dinner, running away with me on exotic vacations...well, I could go on. But none of this scary, threatening agenda (do I really need this? ) required me to have sex with anyone. We've got other people for that!
Point I'm making, I agree with Lynne Sin that we might all be bi--IF you are talking about love alone. Love is humanity's greatest gift, we can love each other beyond a gender identity. I'm straight, you're gay--but love has no sexual orientation and does NOT discriminate!

(22,976 posts)My wife and I hang out with them frequently. I grew up in L.A.'s Westside, so I've been around gay people all my life... it's just a natural part of my daily existence -- I've worked with gay folks, gone to school with them, and some are lifetime friends.
