Had to call 911 last night. Hubby fell and could not get up!

He had had oral surgery that morning and had been cleared by his cardiologist for the surgery. He had sudden weakness trying to get upstairs to bed. He made it to the top but couldn't get further. I hadn't wanted to call 911 because he was fine otherwise and I dreaded the thought of being in the ER with all the Covid going on.

The response team was fast and was excellent. There were 4 strong men lifting my large husband and getting him to the bed. One of them was qualified to check his vitals. He was good. I explained that he had earlier had oral surgery and had been cleared by his cardiologist for the procedure. He was great, had no problems and even drove home.

Today he feels good. He can't have cold or hot foods so he had some toaster waffles and warm coffee.

Sudden weakness in the legs is a problem I will need to be wary of, but not to the point of freaking out.
However, it is now a subject that will be discussed with his doctor.

2. Thanks. It was a bad scare but he's gonna try to get to the bathroom with my help.

3. Did the oral surgeon prescribe an antibiotic prior to the surgery?

Even a single-dose antibiotic? Seems prudent, given existing cardiac issues.

6. Glad he's okay, didn't injure himself in the fall, and that the EMTs were okay

with his staying home.

Several years ago my mom fell at home. She'd been recovering after hip replacement, and she had heart problems. I couldn't lift her by myself, since she outweighed me, and when I called 911 and got emergency help to get her to bed, they thought she was okay but wouldn't give an opinion on whether she should be checked out at the hospital, because of her health problems and age. So I opted to let them take her there, and one of the EMTs marked down that this was NOT an emergency, and the result was an ambulance bill for nearly a thousand dollars, for less than two miles, that we had to pay, though I tried to get that changed.

8. The ER is scary enough but with Covid it's downright lethal.

The EMT operator specified that we needed to be masked when they got there and I was fine with that.

10. True. Glad you didn't have to go. Several years before the mishap I mentioned above happened,

my mom had needed to go to the ER because of heart symptoms but mild enough ones we thought we were okay with waiting for a while for a room there. Found ourselves sitting opposite someone doing a lot of coughing, in flu season, and we both caught flu and were sick for weeks. Thank God back then it wasn't anything as scary as Covid.
