Coca-Cola is tapping into the canned cocktail craze with a boozy version of its Fresca soda.
In a partnership between Corona brewer Constellation Brands and Coke, the companies will launch Fresca Mixed, a spirit-based cocktail, later this year.
Fresca is the second non-alcoholic drink owned by Coke to be turned into a spiked version. In 2020, it successfully launched Topo Chico hard seltzer. Imagery and nutritional information for Fresca Mixed hasn't yet been released.
Constellation (STZB) and Coke said they are launching the product because Fresca is "experiencing a surge in popularity," because it's zero-calorie and has no sugar, making the 64-year-old beverage an optimal choice as a mixer.

Love Fresca, I'm in

(1,132 posts)We used it a lot for a mixer for an easy "Whiskey Sour". Ahhh! High School Days!

(65,391 posts)...but around Chicago we had a pop called Squirt. A very good grapefruit soda. Very popular at the time.
Fresca came out and was hot because of the sugar free thing.
But, I never liked it as much.
Admittedly, I was never a big pop drinker, even as a kid, other than root beer.
By high school, I really went away from any pop, because they're all too sweet for me.
But, Squirt was not. Very bright, very tart. But, I don't recall them ever having a sugar free version.

(191 posts)It's called "Grapefruit Chu-Hi" and it comes in sugar and sugar-free versions, with alcohol content ranging from 3% to 12%.
And I think they're confusing Fresca's age with the year it was first test-marketed (1964).

(24,367 posts)Fresca in decades. I never drank it, I don't do artificial sweeteners and very seldom drink carbonated drinks of any kind. I assumed they stopped making it years ago.
