Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost (1874-1963)
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Robert Frost performed unofficial work on behalf of the John Kennedy campaign in 1960. The Democratic candidate, in turn, adopted the final stanza of Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" to close his stump speech: "But I have promises to keep, / And miles to go before I sleep."

(14,118 posts)4. Thanks for this. I've been in British Columbia and hope to return there one day for all
the gorgeous scenery. And I remember seeing Robert Frost on TV reading one of his
poems at JFK's inauguration. It's nice to have so many memories of Peace and Beauty.
