(9,265 posts)Doc Pomus was a songwriter (mainly lyricist) of the Brill Building era - Goffin & King, Neil Sedaka, etc. He wrote a number of hits for Elvis (Little Sister) and normally wrote songs to order. But Save The Last Dance For Me was personal. He wrote it at his own wedding reception, watching his bride dance with other men all evening. He could never dance with her - he was in a wheelchair from childhood polio. But dont forget whos taking you home makes me tear up now. RIP Doc.

back in the 1960s and I enjoyed performing it in the 1980s and 1990s.
