Doc Pomus was a songwriter (mainly lyricist) of the Brill Building era - Goffin & King, Neil Sedaka, etc. He wrote a number of hits for Elvis (“Little Sister”) and normally wrote songs “to order.” But “Save The Last Dance For Me” was personal. He wrote it at his own wedding reception, watching his bride dance with other men all evening. He could never dance with her - he was in a wheelchair from childhood polio. “But don’t forget who’s taking you home…” makes me tear up now. RIP Doc.

was on my personal performance list. I enjoyed hearing it on the radio as a youngster
back in the 1960s and I enjoyed performing it in the 1980s and 1990s.

According to Wikipedia: " Save the Last Dance for Me " is a song written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, first recorded in 1960 by the Drifters, with Ben E. King on lead vocals.
