(3,109 posts)A number of years ago, back in the late 90's early 2000's, I regularly went to a neighborhood bar a couple of blocks from my home (walked of course) and on Friday's they had Karaoke night. When the crowd was large and the owner wanted to clear the place at closing, they frequently asked me to sing the last song of the evening... I was very good at clearing them out.

I think everyone who sings Karaoke should be required to sign a contract requiring them to
listen to a recording of themselves ALL the next morning (at full volume). THAT'll stop 'em.

However, once I stopped at my neighborhood bar, forgetting that it was Karaoke night. I was
ready to drink my beer quickly and leave. There was a group of young entry-level American
and Japanese businessmen there (it explained the limo out front). The young Japanese guys
were part of a group that had come to the Americans' company for a temporary visit -- and
the American execs had been told to show them a good time.
.
The Japanese men wanted to go to a Karaoke bar (it may still be, but it was HUGE HUGE HUGE
in Japan at that time). When I got there, one of the young Japanese guys got up on stage and
started off with the most fucking AWFUL renditions of "Born to be Wild" that you could ever
imagine... but he was so unselfconscious and intense and fucking JOYOUS in his delivery that
he was driving the crowd into a frenzy.

I would have gone back every week and spent all night watching that stupendous train wreck!!!
