I have seen so many times, an exchange like this:

HuffyDUer: You offend my sensibilities and therefore you are now welcomed to join my ignore list.
ArgumentativeDUer: But you are still wrong and I am still right.
HuffyDUer: You're a jerk!
Argumentative DUer: I thought you were ignoring me.
etc...

I apparently somehow offended his sensibilities, or lack thereof, and he decided to be a dick about it. I find the whole thing to be hoot, actually.

I usually don't put people on ignore, and if I do, 90% of them wind up with granite pizzas anyway, and the rest come off. I'm thinking this one has a pizza in his future...

I just said, "So much for the empty ignore list. Good bye." That is as close as I have come to any "announcement" ever. I am usually able to avoid belligerent people who have a giant sticks up their asses, but this one caught me by surprise.

Are you saying that you sort of suggested that this person was going on your ignore list, after which you put him there, and then his reply to you somehow showed up even though you put him on your ignore list?

It shows that someone replied to something you posted. If you click on the corresponding number under "Replies to Me", it will say that the one replying is on your Ignore list. If you click on what's under "Title of My Post", the post will show up on top, but not in the thread. It will still be there for everyone else (barring those who have you on ignore ). You can tell when "ignored" people reply, but you just can't see it.

Since he's now on Ignore, I don't know if anyone else said anything to him. I miss the old DU2, where all the posts remained, but there would be an "Ignored" in the place of the ignore-ee's posts.

I've been told probably 20+ times that I'm being put on ignore. I only have 8 ignoring me with that odd 9 pm ignores.

Oh, and I know for a fact that one said she put me on ignore about 6 months ago, but replied to me last week.

I have never had anyone on permanent Ignore. Some of that comes from them being tombstoned. Some people purge their list every so often. I'm betting that's what happened the one who said she was ignoring you.

Seems to me that the motivation could be the same (juvenile urges?)

Just as in real life... sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "I can't HEAR you!" is likely to elicit a response.

direct recipient - just because you've bowed out of the conversation doesn't mean it's over.

They could also be giving you fair warning that they will be commenting on things you say in the future - making clear that the ignore is one-sided.

They could simply be telling you they don't care: by announcing the ignore you were saying you thought it would matter to them, and the reply says you're wrong.

Or, they could just be making fun of you for (in their opinion) running away...
