(66,386 posts)No one on my father's side of the family seems to live past the age of 70. One my mother's side, they routinely live into their 90's, and occasionally, over 100. But they tend to slip into dementia by their late 80's, so the longevity is more of a curse than a blessing.

(32,688 posts)after 85 they lost their independence and that made life not that valuable. After dad died mom only lasted a few months.
I'll take quality over quantity every time.

(32,645 posts)We never hear about most of these celebrities, until they're already dead. Jimmy Carter gets a news story once in a while. But most of these people are never interviewed on TV or even mentioned. Glad to hear they're still around.
