I love this face

I adopted Ember at four months of age on New Year’s Day after everyone else passed on taking a risk with a kitten that has entropion.

Two surgeries left her with mere slits for eyelids. Her eyes were hardly visible. Over the past couple of weeks, she can now open her eyes much wider, revealing crossed eyes. She’s beautiful to me, and I’m overjoyed with having a lively, loving cat who got passed over by everyone else.

This is Willow, adopted on the same day as Ember, but a couple of months older (now about nine months).

She’s a Manx with a wee wisp of tail. She took quite awhile to get socialized, coming from a feral situation. Her sister, Buffy, has no tail whatsoever and is still reticent about making friends with us. They’re both amusing to watch, resembling, in body shape and gait, miniature black bears roaming my house.

She came right to me and insistently nuzzled the inner side of my elbow when we met at the adoption event in a local PetSmart store. I had gone to see the two Manx whom I also adopted and, when I heard that everyone else declined to take her, I was compelled to take her too.

We had lost our feline companion of 14 years, Sophie, on Christmas Day, and it was just too lonely without her.
