ThoughtCriminal's Top Five Movie Scenes! (With YouTube clips)

In five+ decades, how many movies have I seen? No idea. Certainly thousands. So when I make a top five or top ten list, it's different every time.

Some of you may notice that the movies listed are a bit vintage, but it not because I do not like more recent movies. Vintage is relative for me - The first time I saw the Wizard of Oz, it was a more recent movie than "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is now.

So here's what I picked today:

-----
Cassablanca
La Marseillaise

Nazis. I hate those guys

-----
Duck Soup
Mirror

Some days, the "Going to war" number from that movie would also make my list

-----
Dr Strangelove
Maj. Kong rides the bomb

Yeeee Hawwww! This is why we can't ever let Texas go.

-----
2001: A Space Odyssey
Transition from dawn of man to space age

I wish I could have found a longer clip that ran to the shuttle docking scene.

-----
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Ecstasy of Gold

As I mentioned, my top five list would probably be different every day, but I think that scen will always be in there.

Oh, I didn't know that. I wonder if he's glad about that, or regards it as a huge mistake. nt Honeycombe8 Aug 2012 #6

Like you, mine would change day to day.

Chilling nazi youth at the dawn of naziism before the war:

One of the movie musical scenes ever:

Lump in throat moment:

Saddest scene ever...I saw it when I was a child and have never been able to watch it again (I didn't even watch this clip):

is chilling.

I couldn't help but think about the current Pope. No doubt, some, maybe many did not become fanatics, but certainly there were plenty of enthusiasm as well.

is partly because Hitler had that youth movement going on. He got 'em young, and they reported on people, even their parents. They were kids and didn't know better, were easy to - what's that expression when you take over someone's brain? And the expressions on the girls faces, in particular, were even more passionate and hard than the boys. While a couple of the older people sitting there looked disgusted; I like to think they knew what was up.

Then the rich guy and his friend - the rich guy is jewish but doesn't look it - they aren't understanding how serious the Nazi movement is. They're into partying and not paying attention.

was conscripted into the Hitler Youth when he was 14. So yes, I have wondered how that affected him.
