Hey, guys, I need to hear some positive stories about

heart bypass surgery.

I just got back from the hospital where my husband had it. Four of them, after having had no symptoms other than being tired.

I'm working on four hours of sleep and nothing but coffee since last night and I'm just so afraid.

We've been married 34 years and I don't even know who I am without him. I love him so much and he is in pain and has tubes and stuff coming out of him.

Sorry if this sounds hysterical or disjointed, it probably is. I spent the whole day holding it all in.

...ten years longer than the docs said she would without the surgery.

Now, you have a couple very good reasons to feel positive about his future!

and pillows are key.

New diet and physical therapy coming soon.

The friend’s story is a bigger success when i and her mother and another relative are positive. This literally reduces their pain.

You get used to the changes, and, there will be changes, but they really do help.

I feel so much better.

Hopefully, he feels a little better this morning as well.

UPDATE:

Well, he is probably coming home today. He is walking, moved down to a lighter pain relief and bored out of his mind.

Thanks for the positive stories, it really did help me and my galloping anxiety.

I will have to put the Pyranees outside when he gets here so he doesn't jump up on him, because Mr. Ronan is going to be SUPER excited that he is home.

She's a feisty fun character. Up and walking around within a week. Some minor issues but pretty much came through with flying colors.

Here's hoping for the best of outcomes.

And after seeing the shape he was in, I left there feeling pretty scared. But not only did he survive the surgery, but he recovered ahead of time. And this was in the '90s.

Six of them. That was 32 years ago, and I'm fine. Recuperation can take awhile, but it is so worth it. Don't worry.

Even this guy, who had a quintuple bypass some 18 years ago. He changed his diet, lost a lot of weight, and looks great for his age:

I came close, by the way. The same year that WJC had his bypass, I felt really fatigued and had some twinges in my shoulder. I knew these were symptoms of cardiac trouble, so I sought out a cardiologist, who did a stress test and immediately sent me to a cardiac clinic in Essen. The surgeon there said "clear the slate, this guy comes on at noon!" I got two stents put in, but he told me there was an ambulance waiting outside the door to take me to another place nearby to perform a bypass if it was too late for stents. It wasn't, but the surgeon said it was a matter of hours, maybe a day at most. The only thing he said to me in English was "just in time."

It is difficult to refer to open heart surgery as "routine," but it HAS been refined and perfected. The post-op care--as important as the operation itself--is vital, and the instructions, especially when referring to diet, need to be taken VERY seriously if the operation is to have had any meaning at all. Manage that, and you should be good for a re-boot!
