I'm considering the best place to move, were I to hit a big jackpot

Outside of several foreign countries on my list (Topmost: Bali and Amsterdam), I’ve decided that my #1 choice is Ann Arbor, MI.

It’s close to my hometown, and even closer to Detroit Metro Airport.

I’m a four seasons weather kind of guy and I’m used to all four in this state (especially Autumn).

That town would have everything I’d ever want for my jackpot life and it’s neither too big or too small. Plus, I’m sure that I could find a place nearby a pond… And trees.

Where would be your jackpot destination?

But developers are systematically stripping it of its charm. Many of the old, signature houses are being torn down for faceless apartment buildings and it's becoming unaffordable for regular people. It's a shame. The Ann Arbor of my youth, with its German restaurants, small quirky businesses, and corner grocery stores is vanishing quickly. Worse, many people are cheering this on.

I was going to try to talk you into Oakland, if you had a lot of money. But you definitely would miss seasons here.

I live in my favorite place already. Oakland.

I'd take Oaktown, all day.

Birthplace of both myself, and Kamala Harris (if I was born 12 mins later, we'd be exactly 1 year apart).

But since I'm ostensibly rich, I'll probably go Montclair or Piedmont.

I'd settle for Rockridge though

Years later, I retired from there. All of Oakland is hugely expensive now. I now live in a studio apartment and paying more in rent than my old mortgage. I can only afford it because I made money selling my house. It’s 1150 square feet in a questionable part of town and is listing for over 650k.

I made sure I stayed in Oakland. Oaktown. Bump City.

My younger bros at Alta Bates.

Walnut Creek is my hometown and I'm in the Bay on the regular, so ... yeah. I'm well aware of the prices.

My elderly folks own two houses outright in WC, so ... East Bay home prices going up is actually kinda nice in my world

at the end of a long lane too narrow for tour buses.

I like it fine here in upstate NY, but I'd chuck it for County Donegal or Connemara.

and the hills above Faro District of Portugal.

There is a community in that region named Santa Barbara de Nexe.

We imagine living in a place with an Ocean view in a place called Santa Barbara for under $500,00.

A nice lakeshore house in or near Zürich or Genève.

Plus, of course, a nice getaway place in Truro, Massachusetts for the summer.
