and the gators are being squeezed by the development.

Perhaps not so much in other states, but Louisiana has some similar situations that maybe don't make the news as much.

That last one makes me chuckles. If there are communities that are subject to flooding, the city will wash their hands off the fact that they allowed development up the creek to make it worse. Instead, they say it's not that the community was built below the flood zone, but that it's subject to a high water table.
