great button making story. And an artist too. 👍
Interesting set of jobs!
(mopinko) Funny!

I got involved in the Humphrey campaign while we were out of school during a school strike in Sept . I was so distraught by RFK's assassination, and the Chicago convention (did you watch?) I just didn't do any thing. I had planned to campaign for Bobby.

Finally I decided Nixon was awful and went off to volunteer.
My best memory was being on the back of a flatbed truck with a band in front. The truck festooned by us with R,W&B bunting, photos. We rode down Fifth Ave handing out flyers, and buttons.

Waaaaay later on the library computers vI did letter size posters for Presidential campaigns to put up on my nabe, and St two Universities.
Word with added drawings I did. Some were pro Dem candidate, some were anti Republican candidate.

I even did an anti Palin one. 😄

i despised nixon. humphrey was my 1st vote. i remember having a running argument senior year w another girl who was in a lot of my classes.
i wasnt paying that much attention, til the attempted coup against clinton. i nearly burst into flames at bush v gore.

i've never been afraid to suck at something new, and never been able to resist a fight. or to at least try to fix something that is broken, but beloved.
i wish it had held the full images and not just the tn's. long lost, mostly, in digital form. but it's nice to see all the words lined up there. almost 150 in the index. i was rly rly mad. it was great therapy, and great writing practice. kept me this side of the line.

and it's what brought me here. i tried to buy google ads, and they turned me down for being too political. i googled and found a post here from the guy who made playing cards w the war criminals. been here every day since. no matter where i was.

in 2020 Especially with drumphf in office!
Around early June with the x anniversary of losing RFK
that much more painful I had to find a more active liberal political site.

Somehow I remembered DU which I only looked at briefly here and there in the 1st, or 2nd year they launched, at a Net Cafe. Without a computer & internet at home I forgot about it .
And there about 19 yrs years later - there it was!

Humphrey was your first vote? As in real vote, or if I was old enough to vote. I turned 18 in '71 - my first vote as part of the first wave of 18, 19 & 20 yr olds.

The only disappointment was I wanted my first vote to be in the Presidential election. I was still raring to go. I had a 18 yr old First Vote button.

Especially it was such an off election year in NYC in '71.
Just a few proposals. I've hardly ever missed a primary or general election either.
