(1,351 posts)Our kids' first dog, Chewie, is 17 and I know he doesn't have long. What makes the thought of his death even harder is he was the closest to my son, Justin, who took his life at 25 (about 7 months ago). So I'm REALLY dreading the thought of when we have to let Chewie go. Sort of like the last piece of Justin still left on this earth.
We had planned on throwing some of Chewie's ashes at a site where we planted a tree for my son. I'm going to try and think of something similar I can do with a picture. I have a picture of both Justin and Chewie together, Chewie in Justin's lap and Justin with a huge smile.
Love love love this picture, though I can't stop crying.

(6,646 posts)My brother just put down an 18 year old dog that had belonged to his son that passed a few years ago. He wept and said the same thing; Bowser was a living link to his son.
I like to think that my dear nephew was waiting for him on the other side.

(200 posts)I have to pick up her ashes tomorrow, I think I'm going to keep them close to me for a while. This picture is so touching and creative. It's a beautiful way to remember their dog.
