What we used to think of as Hard Rock...

Submitted for your approval, some young lads from Wolverhampton who called themselves 'Slade'.

This used to be thought of as hard rock, causing our mothers to clutch their pearls, and our fathers to predict the apocalypse, shaking their fists at our degeneracy. By today's standards, it's practically easy listening, isn't it? Don't you just want to pat these lovely blokes on their head for their sweet and good-natured music?

A 15th birthday present from my mom. She drove me and two of my friends to the show and went in with us. She got a great contact high.

Super fun show. Both of those bands had a lot of stage presence and energy.

we had a blast. Jim Lea broke hid s string and just modulated through the song with out missing a beat. Talk about under rated bass players.

The stones, Bad Company, hell even Led Zeppelin isn't really heavy metal, though they were considered the archetype of the genre way back when.

Their live stuff sounds almost thrashy. I'd say they were the first heavy metal band.

Yeah, raw and thrashy.... I'm in complete agreement with those adjectives, I really am.

I personally can't imagine being nostalgic for today's music in 30 years, but then I'm sure our parents said the same thing back then. They were just wrong, the poor buggers, while I'm right in condemning today's music.

Led Zeppelin sucked in 1969. They still suck.

And BTW, if you think I hate all obnoxious music, I've been a Who fan since they came on the scene in the mid-1960s.

When the beatles used distortion, it was interesting. When other bands started using it ALL THE TIME, it got boring.

Shrieking is not mandatory either.

Nobody in rock knows how to play a clean guitar, I think. The only person I can think of who plays clean guitar is Pat Metheny, and he plays jazz. And he stole all his licks from Howard Roberts and Wes Montgomery.
