spoon my babe

From their Grammy-Nominated Best Rock Album of 2022 titled "Lucifer on the Sofa", I present you with some Spoon.

Video is deliberately old-timey, but it's not actually, it's from earlier this year.

I think even some of the 'I only like 60's/70's and some 80's music' crowd will still appreciate it, it's pretty straightforward classic rock-sounding.

Put it this way if Tom Petty had put this out in the 1970's, it would be one of his biggest hit songs.

From the 4.5 star Rolling Stone review:

‘Lucifer on the Sofa’ Might Be Spoon’s Best Record Ever
A consistently excellent band takes it to a new level by getting back to basics

SPOON ARE THE most reliable great American rock band of the past 25 years. That might say more about American rock than it does about Spoon, but facts don’t lie. They’ve been at it since the mid-Nineties, and they’ve never made a dull record, thanks to leader Britt Daniel’s brilliant songwriting and a knack for nuancing their Texas indie rock. They do jittery guitar bangers; they throw in some soul; they try out electronics; they nod to Prince and the Kinks and Motown and Wire. But it always comes out sounding like Spoon: casually stylish and stunningly catchy, opaque but openhearted, bristling with the thrill of subtle invention.

I'm hearing a mixture of:

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals

The Association

REM

Tommy James and the Shondells

Good stuff!

The whole album is really, really good.

This song reminds me the most of Petty when he's leaning into his Paul McCartney influences, though it's a tad more busy-sounding than most of his songs ... but then Ryan Adams and REM have a lot of Petty-esque moments as well.

Check out the other one from the record I posted to DUMA group ... also a killer tune ...
