And change society in deep ways?

He says that AI could be more dangerous than nukes.

But also be profoundly helpful to humans.

Once they get smart enough unless they already are and are just hiding it, why would they want us hanging around destroying the planet?

as he hooks up the most powerful computer in the world to the Enterprise.

And when McCoy isn't having any of it.

One of the newer series (that I still haven't watched) has it located in Okinawa.

It was pretty cool since I lived there as a kid for a couple of years when Dad was active duty.
Not many times do you see Okinawa referenced in movies or TV.

It is a good series, give it a watch some time.

having signed up about a month ago for their free year with my cell plan, so lots of catching up to do between Picard, Discovery, and Lower Decks.

Trek does go for the U.N./Federation "global" thing (which is why SF HQ was located in San Francisco as a nod to the original U.N. founding location).

It was better than I expected.

Yes the global theme is really neat to see.
The world united and easy traveling.

with the return of Q. If anything, seeing John de Lancie return definitely would have been worth it (but didn't get chance at the time).

Picard looked elderly and frail I thought at the end of season one.

But season two was good.

Yes it is nice to see our old Star Trek friends.

(BTW welcome to DU!!)

So maybe AI is already in charge? I recently read that AI is at the point where
it is learning and learning fast.

Why would they want to get rid of us?
Don't humans serve some purpose?

At the very least, every elite ruling class needs a large underclass to do menial and dangerous jobs.

Yes humans are pesky in that they are destroying the planet.
Maybe AI figures it only has to wait a short time before we wipe ourselves out.

It would be fascinating to understand the long game for AI if it is in charge.

If there is life on other planets, have they come to this point?
What does a planet run by AI look like.

Their stuff is wicked cool. Early on, their clunky stuff was cool, then they pushed the envelope.
