(14,764 posts)None of us had side effects. Very mild symptoms. Quick recovery.
The one who didn't take it took longer to recover, but was young and did ok.
Good luck. The pups will be excellent emotional support therapists.

(16,180 posts)Even though he is young, it may reduce replication and potential for long term effects. Doctors are denying it sometimes for young but others are prescribing it. My son caught it at 19 and has had effects like brain fog, sleep problems, and fatigue and a lingering cough for 3+ months. Caught it again 18months later; this time he took Paxlovid which made it short and better recovery.
From NYT
In many cases, they do. Paxlovid is known to reduce the severity of illness and even lower the risk of developing long-term symptoms such as chronic fatigue, muscle pain, kidney disease, heart disease, blood clotting problems and neurocognitive impairments. Research has shown that it can offer these benefits for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, those who are experiencing their first infection and those who have had a reinfection.
Paxlovids ability to lower the odds of hospitalization and death is well documented. Studies conducted before the drug was authorized in December 2021 showed that Paxlovid reduced these severe outcomes by up to 89 percent in unvaccinated people. While data from last year was slightly less impressive in vaccinated people, Paxlovid still decreased the odds of hospitalization and death by about 57 percent.
Paxlovid stops the coronavirus from replicating in cells. Scientists hypothesize that by reducing the viral load in the body quickly, Paxlovid hinders many problems linked to severe outcomes and long-lasting symptoms, like damage to blood vessels, widespread inflammation and overactivation of the immune system.

(16,180 posts)Mine is doing okay, I cant complain. Im grateful. Its just complicated to separate the challenges he has faced and continues to face.
COVID is such a strange illness. I expect the medical research world is learning a LOT about many other mystery illnesses by studying what has happened with COVID. If one peruses research papers on correlations, they touch on everything from the blood brain barrier to diabetes to fibromyalgia/chronic pain/fatigue to neurodegenerative diseases to ACE receptors to mineral deficiencies to auto-immune issues.
