(1,851 posts)Telemarketing companies "steal" local numbers to induce folks to answer. It might be called ghosting numbers. So maybe it wasn't actually the local cemetery.
I've answered quite a few local unknown calls that end up being telemarketing or surveys. And I swear they once used my number to call me, as I saw the incoming call was coming from my phone! I'm listed as a contact for a committee, so I might get calls from unknown numbers, but I avoid answering them. If I do, I will get repeated calls from various local numbers throughout the day, because I answered.
