1. I can remember many trips to Reno from San Jose through Donner Pass...

I-80 would be closed or chains required on cars. When it snows up there, it SNOWS.

When at the Train Museum over in Old Sacramento, there was a Snowblower that was huge. It resembles a huge windmill on wheels.

2. In YNP...

They have these monster truck things with a giant horizontal auger on the front with a special windshield that has a small portion in front of the driver that actually rotates to keep it from freezing up. Next time I go near the shop I'll try and get pictures. The towns just outside the park also use a lateral auger set up because the snow gets so deep you can't push it anywhere, you have to lift and throw it somewhere. In the case of the towns. they throw it into dump trucks which haul it someplace else.
