One person's weekly rationing allowance in England in 1951.

And the general level of health and fitness was a great deal better than it is today! Also, no cars, everyone walked everywhere, or used public transport, no television, so people engaged in active outdoor pastimes, I could go on...

They walk, bus, train or tram everywhere. There are no elevators and everything is built multi-story, even the grocery stores, and you walk up and down stairs everywhere you go. It's really quiet because of the lack of cars too so bird sounds and people sounds are louder, more clear. Their food is lots more simple, way less additives, and way more fresh. When you go to a grocery store there, half of the store is for produce and cheese and only half for packaged goods. The only fast food is McDonalds, and even those are better, the beef is much better and the lettuce and tomato are fresh.

I use a pad on my treadmill. While not VR I suspect this is coming. However while using my pad and walking videos i have at times found myself in Paris and it is literally hard to find a fat person. Once in a great while you will find someone with a few extra pounds, once in a while and that's it.

This is not unusual on my virtual walks in other cities as well. There is clearly something amiss here in the US.

I'm not going to use the bacon, butter, cooking fat, tinned beef, tea, sugar, or margarine.

If the Wikipedia article is accurate, there were some allowances made for vegetarians and others with dietary restrictions.

Their aunts and uncles and cousins were ranchers and dairy farmers.

What's the output of a cow or two? Off the books. Fresh California meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits, and nuts as well.

They even had relatives in the coffee and tea import business. My grandma's uncle traded California cheese and dried fruit for coffee and tea.

It was rationed gasoline and car tires, especially the car tires, my older relatives reminisced about. My grandma and her sister told many stories about car tires on U.S. 101.
