so Friday night I tripped over a box in the dark and fell flat on my face

Landed on my browbone and cheekbone. Needless to say it hurt like hell & a nasty goose egg popped up on my forehead almost immediately

I woke up with a massive shiner - my eyelid was so swollen I couldn't open it
Today it is much improved and I can open my eye.

Yesterday I had a video chat with my daughter and granddaughter. Granddaughter: "Gran, what is wrong with your eye?" How did you do that? " Then she put her hands up on her face in the classic "Oh My! expression. She also told me to go to the doctor so they could clean it up for me. She is 3 1/2 and a real pistol.

You can get them on Amazon, very inexpensive.

I have had some serious falls. So I try to be smarter now.

however the one in that room is not visible from the spot where I fell.

Swelling is continuing to go down. It is going to take a while for all that bruising to fade though. The bruised blood is draining down into my eye area so it looks really strange. However, I am only sore in one spot, right above my eyebrow and much less today

All it takes is one trip and fall, and life can change in a second.

I had a serious fall down some stairs and fractured my spine in a number of places.
Was sent to surgery and rehab center for a couple of months.
It was a bad situation, thank goodness I am OK now.
But I made sure to fall-proof my entire house when I got back home.

ETA glad you are doing better.
