This bugs the crap out of me...

There's a new and very good movie out, with Tom Hanks.

"A Man Called Otto"

Why is it, those named Otto get picked on so much?

On "The Simpsons" the stoner bus driver is Otto.

A lonely guy in "A Man Called Otto" is Otto.

I bring this up because my name is Otto.

2. The name of the original Swedish movie was "A Man Called Ove"

(En man som heter Ove). The American re-makers of the movie probably thought the Swedish name Ove was too foreign-sounding (do you know any Americans named Ove?), so they gave the character a similar name that would be more familiar to an American audience. The Swedish version of the film was excellent; hope this new one is as good (American remakes of foreign films usually suck, but Hanks is in this one so it might be decent).

Actually, I don't know any American humans named Otto, either, though I did know a cat by that name. And now I know you!

I mean, doesn't it just make sense it is a name from another country? Are we really that bad that we had to do that?

To the OP, I think Otto is a great name. You do not hear it much but I really like it too.

but I wouldn't be surprised if she uses her middle name now. Don't know what it is, but probably preferable to Karen.

9. Whenever I hear the name Otto

I think of Otto Luykens Laurel. It’s a pretty shrub. My house came with several mature ones and they’re lovely. Hardy as heck, and the deer don’t touch them.

Thing is, I just looked up the man who bred this cultivar (Otto Luykens) hoping positive info about a botanist named Otto who created something beautiful, along with the pretty picture, would cheer you up.
He was a Nazi. A reluctant Nazi, I think, who was drafted into WWII. Does that help, at all?

One real, one fictional.

The real Otto: Briefly served as the mascot of the University of Georgia during the 1986 football season, compiling a 3-1 record during his tenure.

The fictional Otto: Sgt. Snorkel's dog in Beetle Bailey.

If I recall, Otto from the Simpsons is quite proud of his position in life.

He said in an episode a long time ago, "I used to ride the school bus, but now I DRIVE the bus" indicating that he thinks he moved up in the world.
