There's a new and very good movie out, with Tom Hanks.
"A Man Called Otto"
Why is it, those named Otto get picked on so much?
On "The Simpsons" the stoner bus driver is Otto.
A lonely guy in "A Man Called Otto" is Otto.
I bring this up because my name is Otto.
(Was named after my Dad)

(115,985 posts)(En man som heter Ove). The American re-makers of the movie probably thought the Swedish name Ove was too foreign-sounding (do you know any Americans named Ove?), so they gave the character a similar name that would be more familiar to an American audience. The Swedish version of the film was excellent; hope this new one is as good (American remakes of foreign films usually suck, but Hanks is in this one so it might be decent).
Actually, I don't know any American humans named Otto, either, though I did know a cat by that name. And now I know you!

(34,136 posts)I mean, doesn't it just make sense it is a name from another country? Are we really that bad that we had to do that?
To the OP, I think Otto is a great name. You do not hear it much but I really like it too.

(21,783 posts)but I wouldn't be surprised if she uses her middle name now. Don't know what it is, but probably preferable to Karen.

(4,671 posts)I think of Otto Luykens Laurel. Its a pretty shrub. My house came with several mature ones and theyre lovely. Hardy as heck, and the deer dont touch them.
Thing is, I just looked up the man who bred this cultivar (Otto Luykens) hoping positive info about a botanist named Otto who created something beautiful, along with the pretty picture, would cheer you up.
He was a Nazi. A reluctant Nazi, I think, who was drafted into WWII. Does that help, at all?

(7,678 posts)One real, one fictional.
The real Otto: Briefly served as the mascot of the University of Georgia during the 1986 football season, compiling a 3-1 record during his tenure.
The fictional Otto: Sgt. Snorkel's dog in Beetle Bailey.

(4,044 posts)If I recall, Otto from the Simpsons is quite proud of his position in life.
He said in an episode a long time ago, "I used to ride the school bus, but now I DRIVE the bus" indicating that he thinks he moved up in the world.
