Okay this has been going on for a year now..... I get text messages asking me if I want to sell a property in Ohio (I live in michigan), about once a week. Today I even got a call (felt like a scam because there was the "beep" before a speaker came on and he had a heavy accent). I usually ignore spam calls but i've been waiting for an important call so i picked up.
What's bizarre is i've googled the address, and my own phone number, and i can't find ANYTHING linking the two. I even looked up the property on Zillow and it last sold in 2007 and isn't even on the market (i thought maybe a realtor could have made a typo and put my number on it).
i'm sure scammers do stuff like this all the time, but what i can't figure out is what database has my phone number and this address tied together. especially since i have my OWN place. You would think my number and my actual address would be tied together and THAT is what the scammers would ask about!
Does anyone else get these requests to sell a property you have nothing to do with?

Ok I kid there but I wonder what the scam is. I think I responded to the first such text that they had the wrong person but I dont remember if they replied back. Seems I get one of these texts every year or so.

(9,265 posts)Asking if I want to sell my house in North Carolina. I looked up the address on Zillow and the house actually exists and is not for sale. No idea how they connected me and my # to the property.

I have not had that occur, but I get frequent offers to buy the land that I own that surrounds my house. It is usually lowball offers and I never get them on the parcel that I claim homestead exemption on.
