(116,122 posts)Other fashion trends I find hideous are most piercings (especially in the nose; the little bead on the hoop between the nostrils looks like a booger), tattoos, very high heels with pointy toes, cropped tops that show the wearer's flab hanging over their waistband, false eyelashes that cause the eyelids to look like they have been taken over by wooly-bear caterpillars, just to name a few. But I'm old, I mostly wear sweat pants and sweatshirts, and nobody should ever take fashion advice from me.

(8,445 posts)I'm not a fan of long nails as it is, and making them pointed makes it even worse. Personally, I can't see myself ever having long nails. How would I get anything done?
I also hope those super-long fake eyelashes go out of style soon too.

(1,916 posts)Seriously we get enough crap in the course of a day!
Advice to those who don't like them: Don't wear them.
Rorey
(8,445 posts)Why on earth would we do that???

(8,445 posts)I don't think anyone here is doing that.

(43,620 posts)but people do tend to dress in the accepted garb of their professions. There is acceptable office attire, or courtroom dress. Dress that distracts or disrupts thoughts of customers or clients is not very career advancing.

(2,379 posts)Zero wrong with that.

(116,122 posts)And some fashions are actively harmful to women, like very high heels.

(65,581 posts)How did you get judgment of women out of an opinion on fingernails?
The OP seems very clear to me.

(21,323 posts)My sister talked me into getting my nails painted with fancy extensions. Forgot I had them and scratched my eye. After two days I tore them off. You can't do any work with them on either.

(424 posts)To each their own.
I was behind a woman at the grocery store, and she could not get her credit card out of the card reader because her nails were too long. I found the situation humorous.
Had a hotel clerk that had to tap the keyboard using a pencil because her nails got in the way.
They just seem impractical to me. Also, they are wicked expensive if done professionally.

(16,829 posts)My nails don't grow long without splitting or tearing.
Clear nail polish helps, but anything else just draws attention to nails that don't meet the "standard".
Since I use a keyboard all day, artificial nails are not a possibility. They break off and damage the nail underneath. The process of getting a manicure is hazardous (the fumes). If you are getting emergency care, they want to see the color of your fingernails without the polish.
I don't "get" black fingernail polish.
Pointy nails seem like they could end up scratching someone. Maybe that's the point.
I just think its a huge waste of female money, time, and energy.
