My grandnephew is gonna sleep with Banu one more time tonight. They've been buddies his whole life. It's the first time someone close to him is gonna die, and he's taking it real hard.
I feel great sadness for him and everyone that knew Banu, the nice black cat.

Good luck to your family.

(49,041 posts)2003 and 2020, and that was wrenching. I can barely imagine what it must be like for your grandnephew, losing a lifelong friend.
I believe many vets give people losing pets copies of the Rainbow Bridge story, and that can be comforting. I have no idea what your family's beliefs are, but I do believe you'll all see Banu again.

(19,568 posts)I've been there more than once and I know the pain and wish no one else ever has to feel such heartache.
My wishes for a gentle passing and peace to all involved.

(28,349 posts)It was so very hard. I took this picture an hour before he left for the vet. Charlie looked and even behaved like his old self, but he was truly suffering.
Charlie, named after Charlie Chaplin over his mustache beneath his nose, was a diabetic, receiving 2 shots of insulin each day. He had Congested Heart Failure (CHF), and was on 3 meds for that. His poor kidneys were shutting down. We accommodated him however we could, for instance we set up 6 litter boxes so he didn't have to go too far to relieve himself.
It was a difficult decision because he acted so normal. Eating, drinking, loving, purring, and tormenting his buddy, Felix, our other kitty. But everything took a toll on him, especially his trying to breathe.
Damn, I miss that fella. We all do, and poor little Felix. We're going to have to adopt a kitty so Felix won't be so lonely.
