People who are otherwise professional looking: slamming doors, talking loudy in the hallways, playing the TV at full volume. It's like they were never even raised right. Maybe they weren't.

The string was tuned to B flat.
Eric Clapton played one for a while in the 70s.
They were hand built by Edouard Douche in his famous Brussels Strings workshop.
One was also used in Hank Williams Jr.'s studio band on his "My Daddy Didn't Eat Chitlins" album.

Several years ago and was awakened well after midnight---closer to 1:30 or 2 a.m.---by a group of people walking down the hall, laughing and having an hysterical time, obviously intoxicated. It wasn't enough for them to just walk down the hallway making loud noises....NO! The assholes stayed out in the hall, talking, laughing and having a great time. Finally, had to call down to the desk and eventually they were either thrown out or went to their rooms.

Another time was in a hotel room ...minding our own business (husband and me) when we heard a loud TV next door suddenly get much louder. That was followed by the screams (of delight) from a woman clearly engaged in a sex act. We never heard the voice of anyone else....just hers. Guess they thought the TV would drown out her screaming demands of what she wanted her partner to do to her. We could NOT escape the sound, even with our own TV on. So we just sat there laughing our asses off at all the directions she was giving her bed partner. After a while, it all got quiet and I guess they finished what they were doing......but it was clear while they were at it, they had NO REGARD for anyone near by.

...were loud enough going at it that I could hear it in my room on the other side of the hallway with both me and roomie having our doors closed.

I'm not sure how my roomie tolerated all that. I think he sometimes just chose instead to fall asleep in the living room in front of the TV. I know it drove me nuts and lasted a number of months, though.

We once had a night from hell in a hotel when we stayed on the floor with and below some kind of preteen convention. Running up and down the halls, using the ice machine, yelling, etc. all night.

When we checked out we let the front desk person know in no uncertain terms how unpleasant our stay was, and we did not have to pay for it.

miraculous when we found out that we were in a WING of the hotel where a bunch of Marines who were shipping out the next day were staying. Racing up and down the hallway, the loudest burps I've ever heard, lots of female 'guests'. Noisy. N-O-I-S-Y.

I don't begrudge them their night of levity at all, but we had a critical meeting the next morning and I wish the hotel had told us where we were going to stay so we could have selected another hotel on our way to DC (we'd had to drive 8 hours to get to the last-minute meeting and got in around 1 a.m.). I explained the situation the next day ...and I got the hotel to refund the night's stay.

What bravery! What pizazz! What balls of melted butter!

Next time pound on the shared wall. "can you hear me??? I can hear YOU!" "Maybe you should try the BACKWARD COWBOY!???"

People lingering in the hall noisily. Open the door and just stare at them.

Uncomfortable doing any of this personally? Call the front desk.

Personally? I'd frame a note like that as a sign of offending a timid milquetoast with my awesomeness.

Look, I'm really sorry.
And it's not the first time we've had notes like this slipped under our door.

I'm 82 and Rose is 95.
We met at the senior center and it's the 'second time around' for both of us.
She's as deaf as a post, but refuses to wear a hearing aid.
I think it's her vanity.

My hearing is somewhat better, but not by much.
We have to scream at each other to be heard.
And Rose likes to watch Jack Paar...no, Johnny Carson...no, Jay Leno...
Oh hell, ONE of those late night guys (Steve Allen?) and so the TV volume has to be at full blast until she goes to sleep.

We travel a lot.
I'd be glad to let you know where we'll be staying and when so you can arrange other accommodations.
