Yeah. Who needs sleep anyway?
About another half and hour of this, and I might as well just get up and go out and walk.

When I get past a certain point in the night, I actually do worse the next day if I end up getting a few hours of sleep. I seem to function better with no sleep than with 2 or 3 hours.
Probably just going to get up and go out in a few minutes. Beats watching the clock.

... and sleep is a definite escape mechanism in my repertoire. During separation and
divorce, I believe I was sleeping 25 hours a day. I was simply... ... ... ... elsewhere.

Have you ever tried something as simple as nature/environmental sound tools online?
.
There are much better ones out there than this (and free), but this is the one I use
as kind of "white noise". Fire, thunder, crickets, train siren (not sure this has that) and
wind chimes (or Native American flute) is usually what I use (VERY low volume levels).

Lake loons are pretty cool, too.

(6,581 posts)First I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I was sleeping, but not getting quality sleep. My blood 02 was falling into the upper 50s at night. So I tried a CPAP machine, which was horrible because I couldn't sleep at all (kind of like this). So I gave up on that after a period of about 5-6 months. Then I've had about 4-5-6 years with intermittent insomnia and generally just could only sleep like 4-5 hours a night.
The past 2 months have been 0-1-2 hours.
I'm at the trying something unnatural phase, I have an appointment tomorrow with my PCP and the name of a neurologist/sleep specialist I need her referral to go see (insurance requires referral). Gonna bite the bullet, even if it means trying the damned CPAP thing again. I guess technically if I'm not sleeping I don't have sleep apnea, but I know it's there and untreated.
Oh, and the irony, when I was on the stupid CPAP I was 45 lbs thinner than now and I still had sleep apnea. In fact, I was kind of too thin for my frame/height.
The other thing that didn't help back then, the last sleep specialist was a pulmonologist, not a neurologist, and a giant ASS. Worst demeanor for a Dr. I think I've ever seen. Just a jerk.

(36,286 posts)I had to go through a couple before I found one that fit my face. I think most are designed for narrow noses; thye jsut diodn't fit my broad but little Irish nose!
Something that worked for me - calcium plus magnesium plus zinc supplements. I think it's the magnesium that's the key - but I need the calcium anyways.

(6,581 posts)I need a big "tent" so it isn't tight on my face, but I haven't seen that. Maybe a deepwater diver's helmet!
Yes, I am going to do something about this one, I just ordered my sleep study results from hospital medical records so I can have them to take to the new guy when I get an appt.

(5,580 posts)About something always the same thing as you try to sleep. Kinda like a movie in your head and you will find you will always fall asleep. Learned this technique in the army and regardless of where i sit or lie down im always asleep before the movie ends. It takes time but lasts a lifetime. Good luck.
