drizzle starting in the late afternoon yesterday, went through most of the night and is expected to stick around today. it's about 50 degrees outside right now, a glorious break from the long, hot summer we had.
how's the weather treating you guys?

(47,675 posts)The kittens have to be on leashes and harnesses. My big boy needs a leash, but we don't use it. He knows he can slip out of his collar (leather dog collar with metal pointed studs - think bull dog). The younger princess freaks out if you try to take her outside and the older princess is with my youngest in MD right now. So, probably three cats and two dogs, my wife, me, and maybe my middle daughter if she feels up to it (just had her wisdom teeth taken out on Monday). She's sort of stoned on hydrocodone right now.

(47,675 posts)The peppers (hot and sweet) are ripening well. The tomatoes are flooding us. Most of the squash died off between aphids and borers. The eggplant (Kermit) have solid fruits that need to ripen, and we just put in more beets, beans, and peas. Curiously, our strongest and largest tomato plant is the volunteer in the compost bin. It's about 5' in diameter now, Sweet-100 variety. I take that as a sign that we didn't get the temperature up high enough last winter (not that we had one).
The black-eyed susans have eaten the perennial bed, but the Lady Baltimore hibiscus is still blooming (weird for this time of year). It's almost time to harvest the potatoes. I just like sitting in the yard and watching my wife work. I'd like to help, but I just physically can't. Still, the eye candy is good.
Yes, I'm a pig.

Greatly important that the first heavy rain happens by then. If not, the whole area is so dry. And that's when we end up with the calamities like the Oakland fire.

(50,130 posts)It's backwards time, apparently! We have been 54 days with only one trace of rain. Unthinkable!

Actually, the temperatures where I am are good. I'd like some rain; send the clouds back, keep the nice breeze.

(41,960 posts)September might be the best month. The sun is low, the skies are clear, the air is crisp, and it just feels and looks wonderful.
And as of this afternoon I'm off for the weekend! w00t!
