So, between watching the spectacle that is the 2012 Presidential campaigns, enjoying the Olympics and living my working class life, I also managed to contribute some of my meager earnings to support my favorite authors. Here are some of the books I have enjoyed on my Nook this past summer, with cover art and links to my handy, dandy, go-to eBook seller, Barnes and Noble provided:
First up, Throttle by Joe Hill, and Stephen King Evidently inspired by Richard Matheson's classic "Duel," "Throttle," is a duel of a different kind, pitting a unknown trucker out for carnage against a gang of motorcycle outlaws on the highways of the Nevada desert. Their race for survival plays out on a twenty mile stretch of the most lonely road in the country, a barren place where no law gets in the way of bad-ass, nasty road rage. Some interesting father/son issues are explored as well.....
I definitely recommend A Short History of the World by Christopher Lascelles. If you want an easy-to-read history book that relates the history of our world from the Big Bang to the present day, this book does the trick with the most important empires and events, all linked to make a flowing narrative, much more interesting than a dry series of facts. The book's purpose is to give a broad overview of the key events so that non-historians confidently hold their own with others when discussing the past. Epic in scope, but refreshingly short in length, the book makes a great place to begin to bring your knowledge of world history up a few notches!
I got a great deal eBook on The Cipher by Kathe Koja, an amazing author who first appeared in the splatter-punk era. I had concerns that the story would feel dated and gratuitously gross, but I was pleased to find that the twenty year old first offering from Koja really holds up beautifully, still a darkly disturbing story about a aimless group of artists reacting to a reality bending discovery that makes art out of flesh, the unknown into terror, and friends into fiends.

... for the target audience I didn't think it would matter. And yes, that's me on the cover. I don't even come close to fitting Marley's description, but SOMEBODY had to be the "goblin". The next one I'm going to publish (under the pen name "Paul C. Brickner"
is "The Rape of Kyra Collins". It's the first of a trilogy, and the second and third ones will be sort of, well, sick. My eldest daughter posed for the cover and will pose for the other two as well.
I'm working on a sequel for Booker Forest as well, but I'm having some trouble getting the plot together. It can wait. I've got about 30 books in the works so I spend a lot of sleepless nights going over plots and dialogue and then forget it all by morning.
